Achievement Awards

Prove your business is a winner by earning points on the scorecard and placing as Certified, Certified Plus, or in the Winner’s Circle! Achievement Awards are open to all businesses competing with the “Start Smart” or “All-Access” scorecards, with no limit on the number of businesses that can earn each award classification.

Arena Awards

Featured for the first time in the 2013-2014 Better Business Challenge, businesses can select a single arena to compete in. Specializing in a single arena allows a business to focus its attention on one of the scorecard categories and dive in to achieve strong performance. Within an arena, businesses first gain the distinction of Qualifying and then continue their efforts to receive an Arena Medal.

 

Honor Awards

Gain further honor for your achievements by earning the Better Business Champion, KiloWatt Crackdown, Biggest Loser, Green Leader, and Top Innovator awards! Honor Awards are competitive with a limited number of winners per award. Honor Awards are given in addition to Achievement Awards.

Better Business Champions
Gather as many points as you can from the scorecard, and then measure up to your peers. Whoever earns the most points earns the distinction: ‘Better Business Champion.’ Awards are given to the top tenants and the top owners in each category of small, medium, and large business. 6 awards total

Small Business:	1-11 Employees
Medium Business:	12-49 Employees
Large Business:	50+ Employees

* Note – The Better Business Champion recipient cannot be awarded in other Honor Award categories. Businesses may earn any combination of the other Honor Awards.*

KiloWatt Crackdown Award
Win this award by achieving the biggest reduction in energy use. Reductions are calculated based on percent of energy use. Awards will be given to one tenant and one owner. 2 awards total

Biggest Loser Award
Show us the biggest reduction in waste, and win the Biggest Loser award! Awards are based on the total number of points earned in the Waste category of the scorecard. 1 award total

Green Leader Award
Be a leader amongst your peers and tell us how you did it! This honor goes to businesses that demonstrate leadership in the community and helping their peers to be more sustainable. Winners will be selected by the review committee based on their responses in the Leadership category of the scorecard. Number of awards is based on participant response

Top Innovator Award
This honor will be awarded at the discretion of the review committee to a business that stands out for their ingenuity, whether through one or two significant actions or in many small ways. Recipients will be determined based on a review of the Innovation category and the ‘Tell Us What You Did’ responses. We invite you to show us where you thought outside the triangle! 1 award total

Special Recognition Awards

Other special recognitions may be determined according to what was inspired by the Challenge and at the discretion of the review committee.
